|Core Values for New Hope Fellowship
You have before you, what are our core values. Why is that important? Proverbs tells us that ". . .without a vision, the people perish." Without
seeing and knowing who we are, where we are going, what we are doing, what drives us, motivates us, gives us passion; if we don't understand those
things then we stand the chance of perishing (giving up, not going forward, leaving). What you have here is a compilation of ideas in what makes us,
New Hope Fellowship, tick. These are our deepest beliefs; our foundation that we stand on. From these we build and grow into the entity that God
plans for New Hope. This is a "living" document. We realize that these values are NOT all inclusive, because we are not perfect. As we grow or as
other values become evident, then we will consider changes that should be made to this document.
Listed here you will find the core value stated, then an explanation with scripture developing that core value.
1. We believe that there is but one true and living God; Maker of heaven and earth and all that is in them. The Alpha and Omega, who ever was, and is
and shall be, and Who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
This core value helps us to put Him first, to honor Him in everything. It leads us to worship Him, to give our lives over to Him, to trust Him.
“Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me.” Isaiah 43:10 (NKJV)
“…Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.’ ” (Isaiah 44:8(NKJV)
2. We believe God is made up of Three Persons who have made Themselves very personable to us.
a. God is our Father. His DNA runs in our veins.
This core value causes us to expect to be like Him.
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness… 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created
him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:26-28 NKJV)
b. Jesus is our Savior and our Lord. He shed His blood on Calvary so that we could be forgiven and cleansed and restored to His original purpose for
man. B/c of Calvary, relationship with God has been restored. Jesus now actually dwells within us.
This core value helps us remember that our sin has been removed from us and there is now no separation between us and God. It will help us to
realize how close Jesus is to us (right inside us!!)
“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through
His blood, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1:13-14 - NKJV)
“…Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:27 (NKJV)
c. The Holy Spirit is our ever-faithful Teacher and Comforter, and the One who empowers us to be kingdom people.
This core value teaches us to expect Him to speak into our lives, to always be revealing new things to us, and to expect to see Him working through
us to touch the lives of others in supernatural ways.
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all
truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” (John 16:12-13 - NKJV)
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
3. We believe that the Bible is infallible, free of contradictions, and is the expressed will of God for our lives. We believe that all teaching to be given
in the church is to be based on the Word of God. We are not to be hearers only, but doers of the Word.
This core value will lead us to apply the Word of God to our lives, even in those areas that seem impossible to us.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are
wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT)
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105 NKJV)
“For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of
God. 24 As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. 25 But the word
of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.” (1 Peter 1:23-25 - NLT)
4. We believe in ministering to the Lord in Spirit-led worship. We place high value on joyous worship, honoring the Father, the Son and the Holy
This core value keeps our focus where it needs to be. Because our worship helps us to magnify His name, His thoughts, and His ways, we can more
easily understand life from His perspective instead of a world perspective.
“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship
Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24 (NKJV)
“You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” Revelation 4:
5. We believe and affirm that Christ is the head of New Hope Fellowship. We are His body on earth.
This core value reminds us that we are to walk in submission to Him at all times. Knowing that will help us when we are tempted to do things our own
“And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in
all.” Ephesians 1:22-23 NKJV)
“… Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, the church is subject to Christ…” (Ephesians 5:23-24 - NKJV)
6. We believe Jesus made it possible for us to be born again as a new creation to be like Him. We are a people who were born with a sinful nature but
have now been offered salvation and eternal life through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that in every situation we find
ourselves, it is our destiny for us to be made more like Christ.
This core value helps us to pursue Christ-likeness. It will also help us to expect to see the life of Christ in us no matter what is happening in our lives.
“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. (Romans
8:29 – NKJV)
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of
God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20 NKJV)
7. We believe that the same power that worked within Jesus to raise Him from the dead also works in us, that we might walk in holiness and
righteousness. That power is the presence of the Holy Spirit in us.
This core value teaches us to expect His power to flow through us.
“But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. 16 For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.” (1
Peter 1:15-16 NLT)
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21 - NKJV)
“For this purpose also I labor, striving according to His power, which mightily works within me. Colossians 1:29 (NASB)
8. We believe becoming like Jesus is not instantaneous but is the result of a process of yielding to the work of God in us as He brings us into maturity
This core value will help us to be patient as He changes us. It will help us believe that He will accomplish this change in us because He says so. It will
also help us to be patient with others while we are waiting for them to change.
“…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ…” (Philippians 1:6 - NKJV)
9. We believe that every member of the church has received gifts from The Holy Spirit and that the practice of these gifts by every member will
contribute much to the health and growth of the church as a whole. We purpose to create a safe, family atmosphere which allows each person to
practice His gifts without fear of making mistakes.
This core value gives us an expectation that each one of us is called to minister the life of Christ to others, whether that ministry be performed from
the pulpit or from the pew. It will also lead us to an expectation that God will use us outside the church doors.
“The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ…All of you together are Christ’s body,
and each of you is a part of it. (1 Corinthians 12:12, 27 - NLT)
“He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is
healthy and growing and full of love. (Ephesians 4:15-16 - NLT)
10. We believe that love is the core value of God, because God is love. We are to love God, and love one another. We believe in making time during
our worship service to not only minister to the Lord, but also to minister to one another as the Lord leads. We believe that love is the source of being
able to do all else that He has commanded us to do.
This core value leads us to expect that the love of God will spring forth in our lives because of His presence within us. We will find ourselves loving
Him and one another more and more as we come to know Him in the context of relationship with Him.
“Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great
commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ (Matthew 22:37-39 - NKJV)
“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. (John 15:12 - NKJV)
“He who does not love does not know God, for God is love...And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who
abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” (1 John 4:8;16 -NKJV)
11. We believe that prayer and fasting is an integral part of our purpose and being.
This core value keeps us close to Christ. It also keeps us in the mode of seeking after His heart for the direction of His church, for the sick, for those
tormented by the devil, and for the lost of our community and around the world.
“And He said to them, ‘It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer…’” Matthew 21:13 (NKJV)
“As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts
“So He said to them, ‘This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.’” Mark 9:29 (NKJV)
12. We believe giving cheerfully is God’s plan to accomplish His purposes through the church and to bless His people. We believe in helping the
poor and needy among us when they come to us for assistance. We do this through financial aid and budget counseling when needed.
This core value helps us to give joyfully to the work of God in His church and in the lives of individual lives, knowing that He will provide all our needs
as we walk in obedience to Him in this area.
“Now the multitude of those who believed were of one heart and one soul; neither did anyone say that any of the things he possessed was his own,
but they had all things in common…34Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and
brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, 35 and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need. (Acts 4:32;
“But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he
purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you,
always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. (2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NKJV)
13. We believe in the importance of evangelism to win the lost. Jesus said we are to go 1) to our own families and neighborhoods first, then 2) into
our towns and cities, and finally 3) into all the world with the gospel of Jesus Christ. As we go, we are not only to preach the gospel but to make
disciples of all new believers, teaching them to obey all that He has commanded us to do. Our goal is to see others come into the same obedient
relationship of love with Him that we have entered into as born again believers.
This core value will help us to remember that we are not to be content with just our own relationship with Jesus Christ. He commanded us to reach out
to the world around us that they might know Him too.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 NKJV)
“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded
you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV)
14. We believe that miracles should be expected and looked for in all aspects of our lives. Jesus has empowered us to do the same works Jesus did,
and even greater works. We are made able to do those works only through an intimate relationship with the Lord Jesus and His Spirit.
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My
Father.” (John 14:12 - NKJV)
“…as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have
received, freely give. (Matthew 10:7-8 - NKJV)
“And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who
does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new
tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will
recover.” (Mark 16:15-18 NKJV)
